40th Annual National Joint Conference hosted by Resurrection Catholic Missions
This year's Joint Conference of the NBCCC, NBSC, NBCSA and NAAACD marked the 40th anniversary of the founding of the National Black Sisters Conference (NBSC) and the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus (NBCCC). Both organizations came into existence in the turbulent summer of 1968, following the tragic deaths of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Since 1968 NBCCC and NBSC also aligned in recent decades with the National Black Catholic Seminarians Association (NBCSA) and the National Association of African-American Catholic Deacons (NAAACD) has worked to enhance the presence and ministries of African-American Catholic clergy and religious in the African American Catholic community and the broader Church and society. The Institute for Black Catholic Studies, a Master's degree and certification program in theology at Xavier University of Louisiana is but one example of the legacy and contribution these organizations have made to the Church. The fortieth anniversary theme was "No Trouble At the River". Keynote speakers were Sister Roland Lagarde, S.B.S. and Father Bryan Massingale, S.T.D. Resurrection Catholic Church and Resurrection Catholic Missions proudly to hosted this anniversary conference after having hosted the 1996 Joint Conference, "Down by the Riverside."
