For 75 years, Resurrection Catholic School (RCS) has stood as an institution that offers a safe learning environment, understanding of students’ needs, dedication to quality instruction, and the ability to adapt to current and emerging trends in education.
However, as technology, instructional trends, state learning standards, and family dynamics continue to shift, it became evident this school year that the staff of RCS would need access to the insights and tools offered by an expert in the academic arena in order to offer the best educational opportunities and resources to our students while sharpening their skills as educators. The advocate and educational powerhouse for the job proved to be Mrs. Krystal Allen.
A native of Selma, Alabama, and a current doctoral student at Columbia University in New York, Allen is dedicated to doing the work necessary to see that schools – especially those that serve students of color – provide innovative and culturally relevant instruction that inspires the next generation of students to do and become their absolute best. In her consultancy work, Allen supports non-profit executives and teams, as well as K-12 teachers, principals, and other figures within traditional public, private, and charter schools. Allen boasts an impressive resume with more than a decade in the field of education – working as a teacher, leader, and learner before becoming a sought-after consultant.
During her time at RCS last week, Allen spent a full day observing the inner-workings of RCS – intently studying and gathering information about everything from administrative processes to teacher lesson planning. The next day, Allen spent her time guiding RCS faculty and staff through engaging examples related to cultural inclusivity, helping to define what today’s Catholic education at RCS looks like, and facilitating cooperative group activities and thought-provoking planning exercises.
If nothing else, Allen’s visit not only proved that RCS’ faculty members are dedicated to educating the leaders of the future, but that they themselves are life-long learners dedicated to self-improvement and mastery in their craft.
