For nearly 40 years , nineteen at St. Jude Social Services and nineteen at Resurrection, Salena Selmar Moore has been a social worker with a heart as wide as the Alabama River. She has tended to indigent elders, and the families of the working poor with competence, caring and compassion.
On October 29, 2021 Salena formally ended her full-time working career as a “Licensed Christian Social Worker”. The Resurrection Parish and Mission family are so grateful for the work that she, her husband, James, her sister, Dorothy, and their extended family have rendered to those who come to us in need.

On Wednesday, October 27, 2021, a retirement celebration was held for Salena.  Joining her for the celebration were several members of her family including her husband, James, oldest sister, Dorothy, children, Shawntrice, Jamil and James, grandchildren, Madison and Samuel, extended family, colleagues and close friends.  Sr. Gilda Bell led the gathering with the opening prayer and blessing over the meal. Tributes were given by Fr. Manuel, Michelle Coe and Dorothy Barlow, W. Clifford Petty provided the musical entertainment and Jewell Cobb Pitts chronicled the event with her marvelous photography. Salena’s presence will be missed in the office but it is time for her to enjoy the fruits of her labors from her many years in the social work arena.

Congratulations and God Speed Salena! We look forward to your volunteer service.
