Montgomery, AL – Resurrection Catholic Mission will host The Catholic University of America and Creighton University on March 5-11 for a weeklong service project.

The collegians who participate in the service project, serve in all of the mission’s ministries and interact with citizens who were instrumental in the civil rights movement, share firsthand reflections and remembrances of those events and learn about the role of the Catholic community in that struggle for justice. The Mission also sponsors other presentations and worship experiences which provide an opportunity for the collegians to experience the rich heritage of the Catholic presence in the African American community and southern cultures.

Creighton University stated, “The Schlegel Center for Service and Justice at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska seeks “to awaken hearts and lives to build a more just world.” Our Service & Justice Trips program has helped form students since 1983 through partnership, service, and learning.  This Spring we are delighted to partner with Resurrection Catholic Missions and other host communities around the country. The 73 students in 9 groups will return to campus better able to integrate the relationships and knowledge they receive on these trips into our campus culture, the student’s course of studies, and their future careers. We are grateful for the opportunity to build bridges through these impactful experiences.”

The Catholic University of America stated, “The Service & Justice Immersion Program at the Catholic University of America exists to create transformational relationships; to build meaningful encounters that propel us to passionately work for the common good. By sharing in and learning from the lived experiences of our sisters and brothers around the world, we work to create bridges of solidarity between our campus and other communities, both far and near. We are challenged to integrate the values of the Gospel and the social teachings of the Church into our lives, and work to create a world that more closely resembles the Kingdom of God.”

Father Manuel Williams of Resurrection Catholic Missions, said, “It is an honor to have the college students visit the mission, immerse themselves in the Catholic tradition through the eyes of African Americans in the south, and to return to their universities with a new perspective.”

“For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.” Eph. 2:10 (NABRE)
