The 2019 Resurrection Collegiate Volunteer Program presses on, and we have had an awesome week with our inaugural group of students from Cal State Los Angeles.
The Cal State Los Angeles Halisi Scholars group consists of faculty members Arcadia Le Vias and Dr. Anthony Ratcliff, staff members Betty Arias, Tait Brooks (coordinator) and Dr. Frederick Smith, and students Nia Allen, Cianne Anthony, Lesley Bradley, Ayzia Clowney, Isis Davis, Charisma Franklin, Cloetail Henry, Angela Moore, Destiny Moore, Ayomikun (Bunmi) Orunesajo, Kalani Robinson, Rayana Ross, Antoinette Saddler, Kenneth Thomas, Star Vance, and Davona Watson.
Between their hours of service at Resurrection, the students spent much their free time this week visiting notable local sites like Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, That’s My Child, and the Equal Justice Initiative’s Museum and Memorial, and making stops in nearby Birmingham and Selma. In addition, on Tuesday, the students had the chance to tour historic Tuskegee University with Tuskegee native and former Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. General President Milton Carver Davis.
That evening, the collegians had the chance to meet local figures of the civil rights movement while gathering in fellowship at a civil rights and social justice-focused dinner which included guests Mrs. Robert Graetz, Evan Milligan, Lecia Brooks, Dana Sweeney, Nelson Malden, Deacon Nathan Williams, Nanyamka Shukura, and Anne and Stephanie Reynolds.
The Cal State Los Angeles Halisi Scholars have made their time with our students and staff incredibly memorable, and we are so happy that they were able to make the trip and join the RCVP legacy. As always, we are so grateful to host these service-focused collegians and for the opportunity to further extend our formation efforts.
